Respiratory protection in construction

Layer 16

Whoever works in construction or a similar sector inevitably comes into contact with construction dust. Daily, countless operations such as grinding, sawing, sanding, drilling, and milling take place on construction sites. Although these activities typically last only a short time, they still release large amounts of dust. The health risks of inhaling silica dust or construction dust or should not be underestimated, even with relatively short exposure.

Sources of dust on construction sites

On construction sites, stonelike materials such as tiles, concrete, brick, and gypsum are often used. These products contain silica but are not hazardous by themselves. However, during processing, such as cutting, drilling, and grinding, small particles can be produced that can be inhaled. Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) is incredibly fine, allowing it to easily penetrate deep into the lungs. Inhalation of RCS can cause severe respiratory diseases and even lung cancer.

Exposure to silica dust should be prevented or at least reduced. This can be achieved through extraction systems or wet processing methods. However, in certain workplaces or for specific tasks, a respirator may be the only practical solution. Therefore, personal protective equipment (respiratory protection) is essential in construction to safeguard workers from inhaling harmful dust.

Arbin respiratory protection for silica dust

Arbin’s fresh air hoods stand out for their extremely easy use and high level of protection. This makes the Arbin Kite the ideal respirator for construction sites with dust clouds. Many users prefer such a supplied-air respirator because clean air is blown along the face, unlike standard masks like FFP2 or FFP3, where the wearer must draw air through a filter. Moreover, the protection provided by a powered air system is much higher than disposable masks.

Furthermore, wearers of the Kite do not need to overcome filter resistance, and a slight overpressure of fresh air ensures a cooling airflow inside the mask. All of these features contribute to excellent comfort, allowing users to work for extended periods without discomfort. This ensures that respiratory protection contributes to health and is not perceived as a burden. In addition to respiratory protection, the Kite Pro Vision also provides impact protection for the face.
