The importance of respiratory protection when painting and coating

In industrial environments where powder coating, painting or surface treatment is carried out, safeguarding the health and safety of workers is of major importance. One of the most critical aspects of working safely in these sectors is the use of adequate respiratory protection.

Powder coating, surface treatment and spray painting release a wide range of harmful substances in the form of vapours, mists and fine dust. These harmful particles can be inhaled and cause health problems. To minimise the risks of inhaling hazardous substances, it is essential that workers wear appropriate respiratory protection during these activities. This may include the use of dust masks, respirators with filters or fresh air hoods, depending on the type of work and the level of exposure.

The VanderGrinten hood as the favourite for powder coating

Independent respiratory protection with compressed air is very popular among coating and surface treatment companies because P3 filters do not need to be replaced frequently. Many companies have relied on the VanderGrinten fresh air hood for years to protect their employees. A Belgian manufacturer with a large powder coating department recently switched to the updated version of the VanderGrinten hood, after the older hoods had been in service for decades. After testing and comparing several alternatives, no other product came close to the quality and wearing comfort of the VanderGrinten hood.

The VanderGrinten air hood is made from a strong PVC fabric, which means it lasts for many years and is therefore a highly durable product. Other products, by contrast, are often made from disposable-quality material that needs to be replaced periodically. An additional advantage of the VanderGrinten hood is its easily replaceable visor. Particularly in surface treatment, this is an important requirement. The visor is also available in both polycarbonate and acetate, making the hood suitable for use in chemical processes as well.
